A corner wall is a right-angled wall. It’s where two walls come and meet. Those corners are designed to support the structure above and strengthen the wall. Another way to describe a corner wall, or to simplify it, would be to call it the edge. Corner walls are prone to damage, especially when a lot of labour or heavy equipment is used, and they can be hard to decorate. As they’re not the focal point of design in the room or on the wall, corner walls are mostly kept bare. If you’re looking for a way to dress them up, here is how to decorate a corner wall.
1. Mural
You may be unable to hang a photograph or piece of art and have it stylistically move around a corner wall. However, an art mural can. An art mural painted directly onto the wall can easily weave around corners. Murals add lots of colours that can personalize a space. It can brighten a corner wall in a way that perhaps nothing else can.
2. LED Lights
Sometimes corner walls don’t have the most visibility. If that’s a concern, add some wireless LED strip lights in your chosen configuration. LED lights are very inexpensive and will add a beautiful glow, especially when dressed up a bit or encased in a covering. This can help brighten the area in a particularly dark space without being overwhelming.
3. Railing
In a lot of public spaces, you have railings that go throughout the building. They curve around corner walls and, in places like hospitals, they’re combined with some colour-coding on the floor or wall to help direct someone. Setting up railings and a colour-coded pathway can be incredibly helpful if your space is large and complex, with multiple rooms or areas.
4. Light Fixtures
A nice way to blend one wall to its counterpart around the corner is to install light fixtures equidistant apart. Any sort of pattern in décor that can be duplicated and extended around corners will help fuse a space. The same can apply to any wall art or décor spaced apart the right way and continuing around the corner.
5. Corner Guards
Metal corner guards are designed to protect a wall corner and wall edge from damage. They can blend into an existing wall design or contrast it. This type of corner protection is available in several different materials, sizes, and finishes. It is an absolute must if you’re in an industrial environment, such as a warehouse or setting where heavy material movement occurs.
6. Faux Plant Vines
Any sort of material that you can affix to the wall and wrap around a corner is another way to decorate without taking up square footage. Faux plants with hanging vines work well here, arranged according to how you like. If they look real, they will look all the more impressive. A cheaper adaptation would be to create wall art using rope, yarn, twine, or wire.
7. Add Some Seating
A seat near a corner can create a cozy spot that’s hopefully not in the way. There are many seating possibilities with a corner, some bulky and big, and others more economical in the space they take up. Be sure not to choose any oversized seating. Try to match your seating to the size of the wall.
8. Add A Small Table
A table is a common way to decorate a corner wall or corner. It doesn’t need to be a large table. A simple table with some books on it, a faux plant, or some home décor works. You will want whatever you include on the table to have some visual interest. You will also want the table to be where it’s unlikely to be knocked over or bumped into.
9. Architecture
If you don’t have a definitive plan for a corner wall, you can put something abstract or some architecture. Make it somewhere that the eye is naturally attracted to. It could be a sculpture, a plant in a standalone planter, a particularly attention-grabbing lamp, or anything else that you feel best represents the room.
10. Storage
Instead of focusing on a corner wall to decorate, create a function from it. Bring storage shelving right up to the edge of the corner. These can be mounted shelving or freestanding cabinets, or something entirely different. Few rooms on a property couldn’t use some extra storage, whether it’s in a kitchen, warehouse, workspace, or wherever you happen to be.
11. Collection Bins
A collection bin near a corner wall is another common way to decorate it. A collection bin can be something like a laundry hamper, a garbage can, a bin to collect recyclables, or a bin for laundry, i.e. such as if it’s a gym. If you have many people going by a particular corner, like employees or customers, a bin here can be a convenient place to collect disposables or reusables.
