There are some rare individuals out there who for some strange reason like spiders and even keep them as pets. Most of us rational human beings don’t like them. What’s there to like? They have long legs (and so many of them), they move quickly, they’re hairy, and downright grouse.
If you’re like a lot of people and find a spider in your home or worse, in your care while you’re driving, I’m sure you start to panic and freak out. Find something sturdy that’s on hand to kill the spiders or have someone else in your home do it. If you find too many spiders in your home, there is the possibility of a spider infestation, so you’ll need to call a Markham pest control service before the situation gets out of control.
If spiders don’t bother you (how is that even possible?), you may release them back “into the wild.” Well, good on you! If you’re like the rest of us, we’ll show you nine best ways to kill spiders without touching them:
1. Use bug spray
If spiders aren’t your thing (I bet they aren’t) or you have common spider issues in your home, keep some bug spray on hand. A lot of these cans come with spouts that spray several feet away.
Bug spray is one of the best ways to kill spiders without killing them, because this means you don’t have to get too close to the spider. In the off chance this doesn’t work, it will still slow the spider down, allowing you with a bit of time to come up with plan B.
2. Suffocate the spiders
This isn’t the prettiest way to kill spiders, but it gets the job done. Place a glass over the spider and hope it suffocates, and quickly! I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t want to be watching a spider die all afternoon. Once it finally dies, you can grab some paper towel, scoop it up and run it to the bathroom where you can easily flush its disgusting carcass away. Phew!
3. Squash the spiders
When I see a spider, I go into panic mode. I automatically grab anything nearby that I can use to squash and kill it. If I’m using a paper towel for example, I’ll make sure to use a lot, so I don’t feel the spider being squashed.
Other things you can use include shoes, sandals, boots, books, the bottom of glass jars, really anything that is close by. The last thing you want to do is give it an opportunity to run and seek cover. Then you have a real problem on your hands.
4. Use a piece of paper
For the more adventurous types, here’s an idea: grab a piece of paper, get close to the spider (I hope you’re brave), and hope it moves onto the piece of water. Now you have a piece of paper with a spider on it. Move fast! Throw it out the window or run to your door and throw it outside. Speed makes all the difference here.
5. Throw water at the spiders
Did you know that spiders don’t know how to swim? Now you do and you can use this to your advantage. If you don’t have anything close by, but do have some water, pour it over the spider. You can kill the spider by drowning it. Then use the time it bought you to get something else you can use to finish it off once and for all.
6. Vacuum the spiders
There’s no way you want to be touching that thing, so another wonderful option is to vacuum it up. Vacuuming is one of the best ways to kill spiders without touching them. Detach the hose then suck that bad boy right up. Make sure enough time passes to ensure the creature is dead.
The last thing you want is to open the vacuum up and the blasted thing is still alive! Once you’re sure it’s dead, empty your vacuum out. You may never look at your vacuum the same way again, but hey, it got the job done, didn’t it? That’s all that matters when it comes to killing spiders!
7. Put a container over the spiders
If you want nothing to do with the whole thing, make it someone else’s problem. Call over a friend or family member who doesn’t mind killing spiders and ask them to do the deed. You can turn away while they do it. No blood on your hands and the problem is dealt with. Talk about a win-win (except for the spider that is.)
8. Use hairspray
This may sound like an unconventional way to kill spiders, but whatever works! The next time you have a run-in with one of these creepy-crawlies, grab your bottle of hairspray and spray the spider. It won’t necessarily kill it, but it will immobilize it until you can get something better to kill it.
9. Buy raid
Buying and having Raid on hand to spray on spiders is an extremely effective way to kill them so make sure that you always have some on hand. Spray it a few times and it should be dead.
We hope these nine ways to kill spiders will help keep you a bit calmer the next time you run into one and expand your knowledge of how to kill them.
